Our North London studio is buzzing this week as we welcome a wonderful group of young learners from Italy for our summer holiday drama club. What makes this group special is that English isn’t their first language — and yet by Friday, they’ll be performing fully memorised duologues with clarity, confidence, and character.
This is the third year that an Italian company has booked our services for their students. They visit England for a week, and on four days they come to our studio for three hours of drama workshops. Alongside this, they enjoy a packed itinerary of London sightseeing and theatre trips. This morning they went to Buckingham Palace and ended up cheering for the Lionesses, swept up in the celebrations! Now, they’re down in the studio working on their English pronunciation — and having a lot of fun in the process.
🎬 Film It to Feel It: The Scene Study Approach
We begin the week by filming each student performing a one-minute scene study. These short duologues — written in simple English but with high emotional stakes — are a fantastic tool for building fluency, expression, and connection. Students work in pairs, and we film them again at the end of the week to capture their transformation. Watching the “before and after” videos is always a highlight — for students, families, and teachers alike.
Here’s a selection of our one-minute scene studies to use in your own classes.
