Choosing pieces for LAMDA Medal Acting

One really important thing you can do that will make your life as a teacher easier right now!

I’ve heard from lots of people that sourcing materials for medal acting exams can be a real headache. It can be a struggle to:

• find extracts that are long enough

• find plays that your students will love

• ensure that the pieces are the correct difficulty for the exams

• in modern plays it can be hard to find pieces for students who want to avoid swearing and adult themes

Over the last 20+ years of preparing students for LAMDA Exams I’ve built up a huge library of pieces, and some useful strategies to make my work life manageable. I think this is my most useful tip:

Select all your monologues and duologues for your medal students from the same plays.
